THE Institute of Public Relations has written to every council in Scotland to promote its extensive training schedule north of the Border.
The Institute’s Scotland Group recently teamed up with London-based Communication Skills Europe to create a comprehensive PR training programme in Scotland. The courses, being held in Perth, are open to members and non-members of the IPR.
Jane Cumming, the chair of IPR Scotland, said: “For many local authorities in Scotland, PR training can be a large expense. Most communication courses are held around London and departments often have to pay for travel, overnight accommodation and course fees. There’s also the inconvenience of having people away for an extra day while they travel south.
“Our courses, all held in central Scotland, offer an affordable alternative. For Scottish organisations, there’s no need for overnight accommodation – and our course fees are much cheaper than similar courses in London.”
The push to local councils is part on ongoing bid by the IPR to recruit more people to the Institute from the public sector. The IPR will discuss the way forward in Scotland at a special Scottish EGM on April 30.
